Kristen Stewart. Pre-Twilight — Adventureland, Into the Wild. There's something about the character she plays. Quiet, and — I don't wanna say broken — flawed. You can just tell she had a really tough upbringing but pushed through it, managed it.
That archetype. The kind of person who still makes mistakes, feels really strongly, bucks up, maybe drinks a little too much sometimes, gets sporadic, emotional, whatever. But also really chill, quaint, quiet. There's something about that girl I find insanely attractive. It's the realness. The rawness. No need to look pretty or perfect — she barely wears makeup in any of those movies.
And she can play so many different versions of it. Even in Sacramento — ten, fifteen years later, she's a pregnant mom, Michael Cera's going through some weird shit. I don't know if anyone's seen it. Good movie. It's on Amazon Prime.
But back to Kristen Stewart. Three things.
One: an amazingly talented actress. She's gone a little woke in recent years, whatever. I'm talking young Kristen Stewart. That archetype nails it for me every single time. She plays it perfectly. I wonder if that's actually who she is, or if she just knows that girl so well.
Two: super pretty, naturally, without needing anything.
Three: incredibly talented. So — random shout out to Kristen Stewart.
And Adventureland — Jesse Eisenberg's great in that movie too. Bill Hader. That whole cast, unbelievable. Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some! — Richard Linklater always takes the coming-of-age spotlight. But man. Adventureland. Probably a top-five movie for me, all time.
